Big Wave Beach
Visit Big Wave Beach! Discover beautiful secluded bays and rugged headlands, pounding surf beaches and bushland. Even though Hong Kong is known for being a shopping paradise, it is also known for having extremely polluted air. That being said, the beaches in Hong Kong are usually dirty and not attractive. However, Sai Kung's Big Wave Bay is different. Big Wave Bay Beach is located at the scenic eastern end of Hong Kong Island, close to the Dragon’s Back hiking trail. Big Wave Bay has a good beach with clean sands and is a popular surfing beach. It is a hit with local windsurfers. The beach has a café, showers, toilets, changing rooms and BBQ area. Lifeguard service operates from March to November and the beach has shark prevention nets.
Personally, I don't have a big interest in beaches. However, I have been to Big Wave Bay once and I have to say that I was surprised at how the clean sands and sea. Usually in Hong Kong, clean sands are so rare that I thought it would be possible to see something like this. The scenery was absolutely beautiful. Even though it was a hot summer day when I went there, it felt relaxing and cool. It is definitely a place I would visit anytime.
